Quadraspire's flagship rack, called X-Reference, is the result of continuous development and would be inconceivable without the use of multi-layered solid bamboo levels. Alester Kells had discovered that a SunokoVent level only offers significant sonic advantages if the air underneath it can circulate freely. A layer that is only a hand's breadth above a closed surface, on the other hand, does not work as desired.

At the same time, Kells' production manager Ian Sibley kept him busy with special requests for various spike materials. To this day, he still hasn't forgiven him for the fact that the first attempt to mill titanium put the CNC machine out of action – fortunately, titanium spikes really didn't sound good. Spikes made of a soft bronze alloy, on the other hand, work excellently in combination with the SunokoVent platforms made of solid bamboo, but their sound was heavily dependent on the surface used.

The combination of these two findings led to a double-layer technique. In the X-Reference model, a SunokoVent platform made of solid bamboo stands on bronze spikes on an X-layer. This is also constructed from solid bamboo layers, chamfered even more clearly and even free of material in the middle. The X-level is coated all around with NEXTEL. It is connected using pierced bronze spike plates, which are embedded in the X-level in a defined manner. The bronze parts are not painted, but coated by hand with linolin. Unlike a lacquer finish, this wool wax provides a pleasant-sounding protection for the material, which develops a patina over the course of months. The double levels are connected by concave aluminium columns, which, with a diameter of 44 mm, are even more opulent than those used in the SunokoVent rack, so that the larger levels are better supported.

The solid columns are available in heights of 20 cm (maximum component height 12.5 cm), 25 cm (maximum component height 17.5 cm), 30 cm (maximum component height 22.5 cm) and 35 cm (maximum component height 27.5 cm).

Of course, this rack system stands on spikes. The X-Reference brings enormous openness and liveliness to the sound image. If you are looking for a rack that impresses above all with its powerful bass, this is not the right choice. Quadraspire prefers bass that is precisely defined and contoured.

Sound tips
1. Optimal dissipation is achieved when the individual components are firmly attached to the shelves. We recommend Cardas Golden Cuboids wooden bases for this purpose.
