Michael Nyman: The Piano (Hybrid-SACD)

Michael Nyman: The Piano (OST) (Hybrid SACD)

‘The Piano’ is a film by New Zealand director Jane Campion. The leading roles are played by Holly Hunter, Harvey Keitel and Sam Neill. The film became an international success and won the Palme d’Or as well as three Oscars. The film score, composed by Michael Nyman, was released by Virgin Records. Although it is described as a ‘soundtrack’, this is actually a partially re-recorded version of the film score, as Nyman himself plays the piano on the album, whereas in the film version it is played by the lead actress, Holly Hunter. The music is performed by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under Nyman’s baton, with members of the Michael Nyman Band – John Harle, David Roach and Andrew Findon – taking on the distinctive saxophone parts. *The Piano* was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and for the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music.

Universal Music Hong Kong is now bringing this popular film score to life in high-resolution hybrid SACD format.
