Bernd Ahne is regarded as one of the leading specialists in the field of the influence of electricity on audio components. Having spent years intensively researching the sonic effects of fuse holders in fuse boxes, he turned his attention some time ago to flush-mounted cables – a topic that is often neglected in many high-end installations and therefore represents a frequently overlooked ‘bottleneck’ for optimal signal transmission.

Whilst conventional flush-mounted cables, with a cross-sectional area of 1.5 mm² to a maximum of 2.5 mm², are simply too thin and feature low-quality copper conductors without shielding, HiFi-Tuning’s Ultimate4 flush-mounted cable has a cross-sectional area of 3 x 4 mm². High-quality oxygen-free solid-core copper (OFC) is used as the conductor material. Compared to a ‘better’ standard 2.5 mm² cable with an internal resistance of 0.00741 ohms, the HiFi-Tuning flush-mounted cable has a significantly lower internal resistance of 0.00427 ohms per metre, thereby offering superior conductivity. The phase and neutral conductors are shielded separately to provide the best possible protection against high-frequency and electromagnetic interference. Special insulation materials (see data sheet) are used to achieve results with particularly low inductance and capacitance.

Ultimate4 solid-core flush-mounted cable with cryogenic treatment
The Ultimate4 Solid-Core flush-mounted cable from HiFi-Tuning is also available in a version optimised for conductivity, in which the conductors are cryogenised via a one-week, computer-controlled nitrogen treatment at -196° Celsius. Both versions can be ordered either by the metre or as a complete 100-metre reel. During installation, please ensure that the shielding is twisted at the input end and connected to earth. At the rear of the appliance (socket), the shielding must be cut flush to prevent it acting as an antenna!
