ADOT ONI-100 Optical network isolator with RJ45 input/output
The ADOT ONI-100 offers the sonic and technical benefits of the ADOT MC01 in a particularly simple, practical solution. Connection is straightforward via two standard RJ45 network cables. The optical galvanic isolation takes place entirely within the ONI-100.
The result: a clean, tidy installation and an effective reduction in network interference, without the need to modify existing RJ45 infrastructure. The ADOT ONI-100 is therefore the ideal solution for retailers and customers who wish to optimise the sound quality of digital streaming systems without adding further complexity to the setup.
The simple audiophile network isolation solution for ethernet RJ45 users
Network wiring in the home acts as an antenna and collects electrical interference from TVs, switching power supplies, phone chargers and PV panel installations. Connecting your homes noisy ethernet to a sensitive audio system seriously impacts sound quality.
Why use the ONI-100?
ADOT developed the concept of using Fibre Optics to isolate this noise while rebuilding and retaining the music data with the launch of the ADOT MC01.
The ADOT MC01 concept is improving systems worldwide, by using SFP connectors for connectivity. But most home networks, hifi components and even audiophile switches, use conventional RJ45 connectors.
The ADOT ONI-100 offers all the advantages of ADOT MC01 in a simple device that connects using a pair of standard RJ 45 network cables. The optical isolation is all performed internal on the ONI-100, keeping the installation simple and tidy.
The reason is simple.
Behind the 0’s and 1’s hi-fi electrical signals are still analogue, and just as susceptible to the influence from noise and interference. This additional noise damages the integrity of the pulse edges. This uncertain transition point, of a noisy pulse edge, results in timing errors and jitter.
The solution is simple too.
By breaking the conducted signal, we remove the interference and isolate the hi-fi system. This is done with fibre optics––now the data can be communicated to the digital components, but without any risk of introducing any conducted interference and noise.
Interesting facts
Normal copper network cables carry electrical noise and interference picked up by the residential network wiring and without precautions will introduce noise into the HiFi system, limiting performance and resolution.
By breaking the cable connection and introducing the ONI-100, the noise is stopped at the point of insertion of the ONI-100. By placing the ONI-100 as close as possible to the Hi-Fi system, any possibility of wiring noise between the ONI-100 and the HiFi system is reduced.
The power supply for the ONI-100 is a linear plug top supply, and so this can be used close to the Hi-Fi system without adding any noise.
1. There is no setting up required, simply connect the INPUT socket to the residential network or router, and the OUTPUT socket to your HiFi System, or the Audio Data switch if that is used in the Hi-Fi system.
Make sure that it is powered ON (green POWER light is lit) and after a few seconds to initialise, the network signal will be as normal, but now clean.
2. If using a Powerline Ethernet Adapter, or a Wireless Access Link to get network connectivity to the HiFi system, there is an added advantage. The ONI-100 decodes all the data internally, rebuilds it, passes it through the short internal optical link, and then passes the signal to the HIFI system. Repairing the damage caused to the signal by the Powerline Ethernet or the Wi-Fi.
3. Please take care with the selection of the Ethernet cables between the ONI-100 and the HiFi system.
We strongly recommend Melco / DELA cables which take precaution against both noise pickup and digital ground loops.
Connect the cable end with the logo to your HiFi system.
The ONI-100 is designed to be powered 24-7.
