audioquest Red River audio cable
There are two Red Rivers in North America - North and South. The Red River South was home to a wide variety of peoples. It used to form the border between the USA and the Spanish colonies; today it is part of the border between the neighbouring states of Texas and Oklahoma. The Red River North is formed from the confluence of several rivers in North Dakota and Minnesota, but its history is Canadian. Early settlers on the Red River North were the Métis, descendants of French and Canadian natives. In 1869, the Métis began an uprising against the Canadian government that became known as the Red River Rebellion. Ultimately, it led to the creation of the province of Manitoba.
MASSIVE CONDUCTORS OF LONG CRISTALLINE COPPER (LGC):
Solid conductors prevent distortion caused by mutual interference between strands. The solid long crystalline copper (LGC) in Red River allows for a more balanced, clearer sound than cables with the usual oxygen-free high conductivity copper (OFHC). OFHC is a common metals industry specification that considers "losses" without any consideration of distortion. LGC contains fewer oxides in the conductive material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries and offers significantly better performance.
HARD-CELL-FOAM INSULATION:
Hard Cell foam is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest's video and digital audio cables. Similar to PE foam, it contains nitrogen injections that create air pockets. "Hard" foam is used because the stiffness of the material ensures that the conductors within the cable do not change position relative to each other along the length of the cable, which maintains the characteristic impedance uniformly.
METAL LAYER NOISE DISCIPATION SYSTEM (NDS):
Achieving 100 per cent shielding is easy. To prevent "trapped" RF interference from affecting the unit's ground reference, the AudioQuest Noise Dissipation System is required. It prevents most of the RF interference from reaching the ground plane of the unit.
TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY:
The three conductors in Red River "triple-balanced" cables, whether assembled with RCA or XLR connectors, ensure that equally low-distortion conductor paths are available to the positive and negative signals. The 100% shielding is never used as an inferior conductor.
COLD-WELDED, GILDED CONNECTORS:
This connector design allows connections without solder - as this is a common source of interference. Because the end sleeves are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be selected for low distortion rather than machinability.
