The OBERON 5 is a compact and elegant floorstanding loudspeaker with two 130 mm (5 1/4'') wood fibre bass/midrange drivers and the 29 mm OBERON dome tweeter. The slim OBERON 5 with its amazingly deep and powerful bass, a clear and well-balanced midrange and airy highs is recommended for all kinds of music and movie soundtracks.

The Dali OBERON 5 is a slim floorstanding loudspeaker which is one of the all-rounders among the transducers: It requires comparatively little floor space, can be easily integrated into most living environments and convinces with its outstanding sound quality.

The fact that the OBERON 5 is one of the most sonorous representatives of its profession is due not only to the particularly stable housing, which is reinforced with internal cross struts and thus optimally protected against disturbing cabinet resonances, but also to the technical ingredients that are not common in this price category. So it's not surprising that the two DALI-developed bass-midrange drivers guarantee a deep, extremely dynamic bass and a balanced, natural mid-range reproduction. This is because the drivers not only feature particularly lightweight yet extremely stiff 130 mm (5 1/4'') wood fiber diaphragms, but also magnet systems manufactured with the patented magnetic material SMC and high-quality voice coils wound from a copper-coated aluminum wire. All this leads to an especially impulsive, lively and true to original reproduction of any music and film soundtrack.

Above 2,400 Hz, the tweeter specially designed for the OBERON series reproduces all upper mid-range and high frequencies. The 29 mm dome, which is particularly large, consists of an exceptionally light fabric and can therefore reproduce even the shortest impulses very precisely in the signal path. Thanks to its wide dispersion characteristic, the OBERON 5 is able to sound the entire room with a neatly staggered stereo sound image and not the few listening positions in the "sweet spot" exactly opposite the loudspeakers.

TIEFMEDTÖNER
Like all DALI drivers designed to reproduce the mid and low frequencies, the two 130 mm (5 1/4'') OBERON 5 bass/midrange drivers also feature a wood fibre cone. The mixture of a fine-grained paper pulp reinforced by the addition of wood fibres results in a stiff, lightweight structure with excellent acoustic properties. In combination with particularly low-loss beads and centering spiders, the cone diaphragm reproduces even the finest sound details extremely clearly and precisely.

The cones are surrounded by a rubber surround which, due to its soft and very flexible material, allows the cone to vibrate absolutely freely, has very low damping and allows the magnet system to control the cone movement very precisely.

HIGH TONE
The tweeter with its ultra-light, 29 mm diameter fabric dome was specially developed for the OBERON series. The cone is made of an extremely lightweight fabric that weighs less than half as much as most other dome tweeters on the market, at just 0.060 mg per mm2.

Thanks to the large diaphragm, the tweeter achieves a higher sound pressure level with a smaller excursion, which means that the voice coil can always move extremely precisely and in a controlled manner. The tweeter's magnet system is cooled with ferrofluid to provide higher power handling, perfect damping and support for absolutely centred voice coil excursion.

The extremely light dome tweeter manufactured by DALI is also optimized for a wider bandwidth in its lower frequency range. This ensures a seamless transition from bass-midrange to tweeter with a balanced, airy and very harmonious reproduction of the upper midrange.

The front panel of the tweeter has a similar design to the OPTICON and RUBICON series in order to create optimum working conditions for the fabric dome with regard to a far-reaching frequency response, very wide-angle radiation and as little discoloration as possible.

SMC
The use of SMC in the magnet system significantly reduces mechanical distortions caused by hysteresis and eddy currents. In combination, these improvements to the magnetic drive significantly reduce third-order distortion, which is why the OBERON Series speakers provide a longer, more relaxed listening experience with unobtrusive mids and an amazing level of detail in this class.

The drive consists of a large ferrite magnet enclosing a pole piece made of a unique combination of iron and SMC. SMC is a magnetic powder that makes it possible to form strong magnets that do not conduct electricity. Since the ferrite iron only forms the base of the pole piece, the negative effects of the iron are minimized, while the 10 mm thick SMC disc is placed on top of the pole piece exactly in the middle of the main working area of the four-layer voice coil. This guarantees the maximum effect of the SMC on the voice coil environment, resulting in a greatly improved constant flux field.

Housing
The cabinet of the OBERON 5 consists of CNC-milled MDF panels, which are coated with carefully selected, high-quality vinyl foils and thus form a solid basis for the assembly of the loudspeaker chassis.

In the interest of optimum timing, all the inside of the cabinet - with the exception of the back of the baffle - is lined with acoustic insulation material. This ensures more direct contact between the woofer and the bass reflex port, resulting in a more precise bass and an open, highly transparent midrange.

The bass reflex ports are located at the rear of the cabinet to ensure the strongest possible bass response by supporting the sound waves reflected from the wall behind the speakers.

The front covers of the OBERON series have also been redesigned. The elegant rounded covers, covered with a specially textured fabric, give the loudspeakers an extremely pleasing and modern look. The lighter cabinet versions white and light oak are supplied with grey mottled front covers, the darker cabinet colours black and walnut are supplied with black covers. A white version is also available as an optional accessory.

Elegant aluminium frames give the floorstander a lighter design and a stable stand.
